About HPV immunisation data
The data available on HPV immunisation is from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). From 31 December 2018, the National HPV Vaccination Program Register was de-commissioned. Find pre-2018 HPV immunisation data at Archived HPV Immunisation Data.
A requirement exists for vaccination providers to send HPV vaccination records to the AIR, operated by Services Australia.
Presentation of HPV immunisation data
Data from the AIR is sourced and assessed at 15 years of age. The National Immunisation Program outlines the vaccine dosing schedules. Please see the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine page for more information.
We break the immunisation coverage rates into the 4 most requested categories for reporting purposes. These are:
- year
- sex
- state and territory
- First Nations status.
We annualise data by calendar year based on quarterly coverage data.
HPV immunisation coverage rates
This table shows annualised HPV vaccination coverage rates for 2020–2023.
From February 2023, HPV vaccines were administered as a single-dose vaccine rather than a two-dose vaccine. This change contributed to the rise in vaccination rates.
