Immunisation coverage data, surveys and reports

List of immunisation resources from a range of providers, including data tables, surveys, reports and journals.

Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) data

We publish AIR data that shows childhood immunisation coverage by:

  • PHN for all children and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
  • SA3 for all children in each state and territory.

Primary Health Network (PHN) data

PHNs were set up by the Australian Government to coordinate health services. Australia is divided into 31 PHNs. The Australian Bureau of Statistics uses SA3s to group data by region. Australia is divided into 351 SA3s.

Vaccination objection (conscientious objection) data

Vaccination objection data was previously collected in AIR until 31 December 2015.

From 1 January 2016, only historical AIR conscientious objection data will be available.

National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS)

NCIRS plays a prominent role in the analysis and reporting of data from AIR, and the use of these data for research, surveillance and evaluation.

Historical data from the National HPV Vaccination Program Register

The National Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Program Register (HPV Register) ceased operating on 31 December 2018. All HPV vaccinations now being recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

This collection contains archived human papillomavirus (HPV) coverage data previously recorded on the National HPV Vaccination Program Register (HPV Register).

Adult vaccination surveys

Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) surveys

The AIHW conducted surveys of Australians aged 18 years or older in 2004 and 2009. Participants in the survey were asked about their recent experience of influenza and pneumococcal vaccination, and about their medical and socio-demographic status.

2014 survey on adult flu vaccinations

In June 2014, the Department of Health commissioned a Newspoll Survey on adults receiving the seasonal influenza vaccine.

National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS)

The NNDSS was established in 1990 to coordinate the national surveillance of more than 50 communicable diseases. It collates, analyses and publishes disease notifications every day.

Public Health Information Development Unit (PHIDU)

PHIDU offers free online access to a comprehensive range of data broken down to national, jurisdictional, regional and small area levels across Australia. Socioeconomic and geographical variations in health are highlighted in interactive atlases and graphs, and supported by data tables and metadata. Where available, data are analysed by age, sex and Indigenous status.

Communicable Diseases Intelligence Journal (CDI)

This quarterly publication is published by our Office of Health Protection. It provides information on the epidemiology of communicable diseases in Australia, including surveillance, adverse event reporting, prevention and control.

Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW)

The AIHW is the leading health and welfare statistics agency in Australia. Their interactive Healthy Community Indicators: Immunisation page shows detailed immunisation data for children at 1, 2, and 5 years of age, and how these rates compare between local areas across Australia.
