MyMedicare is a new way to formalise relationships between patients and their healthcare providers. When a patient and their preferred healthcare provider both register in MyMedicare, additional government funding becomes available to support them to offer more of the tailored care and services their patients need.

The first step is to check if you’re eligible. You can register in MyMedicare if:

  • You have a Medicare card or a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Veterans Card, and
  • you’ve had two face-to-face appointments with the same general practice in the last 24 months – or one appointment if you live in a remote location, and
  • your preferred general practice or eligible health service is already registered in MyMedicare.

You can register in MyMedicare by using your Medicare Online Account or Express Plus Medicare Mobile app, or by filling in a form the next time you visit your general practice. When you register in MyMedicare, your personal information will be kept secure and your privacy will be maintained.
