Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program – Lucas UFS Medical Centre in Ballarat Victoria profile

The practice manager and health professionals at Lucas UFS Medical Centre share why they decided to participate in the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program.

Amy Whitehouse, Practice Lead: The Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program is about incentivising GPs to bulk bill their patients and allowing more accessible healthcare.

Dr Viraj Rajaguru, General Practitioner: We used to charge, but some of the patients, they can't afford out-of-pocket.

Amy Whitehouse: Now, utilising the Bulk Billing Incentive Program meant that all of their patients were going to be able to access appointments with them on a more regular basis, rather than last minute.

Jenny Poppe, Registered Nurse: In this economic climate for probably in a long time, the patients actually put their health first. They have previously put food, bills, and their kids in front of health.

Dr Viraj Rajaguru: As a new clinic, to get popular among the local community, this is a good program.

Amy Whitehouse: Just because a practice is bulk billing and the patient is not physically paying for a consultation, doesn't change the quality of care that they receive from their GP.

Jenny Poppe: The switch to bulk billing has benefited the patients in the fact that the doctors can see them more regularly. We can pick up on anything that they may have missed out with their health.

Amy Whitehouse: I'm proud to work in a bulk billing practice because patients can access care whenever they need it.
