We, as older Australians, have given a lot to this country. We need to stand up and be proud because if you take on ageism yourself, it can have detrimental effects. So we as older Australians have to say we're proud, we've contributed. We may need some help, but we can still contribute by mentoring grandchildren, talking about our lives. We've got a lot to give. That's why I'm passionate about aged care and making sure that everyone is cared for. And I think one of the most important things we want is to keep our individuality and our right to do things. Sometimes we get overprotected as we get older and I call it benevolent ageism. If she does that, she might fall. We let children take risks, we've gotta let older people take risks and so we have to have a safe environment, but one that's not prohibitive.
