Macular disease is the leading cause of severe vision loss and blindness in Australia. It affects people of all ages.

The National Strategic Action Plan for Macular Disease identifies the most effective interventions to reduce the burden of macular disease.

The plan has 4 pillars:

1. Prevention and early detection
Prevention and early detection of macular disease. Prevention of vision loss and blindness.

2. Treatment
Access to treatments and services that provide the best outcomes.

3. Support
Support that enables affected Australians to fully participate in their communities.

4. Data and research
Improved capture and use of data to strengthen research programs.
