Disability Royal Commission Progress Report 2025

Recommendation 6.30 – Expand the scope of The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health

Read progress on recommendation 6.30 of the Disability Royal Commission.

Responsibility: Australian Government

Response: Note

Status: Note

The Australian Government’s response to the Final Report noted this recommendation in its intention to develop centralised leadership in education, training and practice in the health of people with cognitive disability. As per the response, expanding the scope of the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health is not an appropriate mechanism to achieve this intent.

Further development of national leadership in education, training and practice in the health of people with cognitive disability has continued to progress with the release of the National Roadmap to Improve the Health and Mental Health of Autistic People (Autism Health Roadmap) in February 2025.
