BreastScreen Australia – Statement on use of thermography to detect breast cancer

Thermography — or thermal breast imaging — is another scanning technique that uses ‘heat pictures’ of the breast to detect cancer. Studies show that tumours need to be several centimetres in diameter before they can be detected using this method.

BreastScreen Australia uses mammography which can detect breast cancer at a much smaller size and is therefore more likely to detect cancer early.
