BreastScreen Australia – Position statement on the use of tomosynthesis within breast screening

Statement from BreastScreen Australia about whether breast tomosynthesis, a new type of 3D mammogram, will be used in our screening program.

3D mammograms are a new technology that may possibly be used in future breast screening services. At this time existing scanning technology is still the most effective test for population screening for breast cancer. As new evidence and research emerges, this decision may be reviewed.
