The Australian National Diabetes Strategy 2021–2030 (the Strategy):
- considers current approaches to diabetes services and care;
- considers the role of governments and the diabetes sector;
- ensures current efforts and investments align with identified needs;
- maximises the efficient use of health care resources and
- articulates a vision for preventing, detecting and managing diabetes.
Please note the publication of the Australian National Diabetes Strategy precedes the Standing Committee for Health, Aged Care and Sport inquiry into the state of diabetes in Australia. The Committee tabled its report, 'The State of Diabetes Mellitus in Australia in 2024', on 3 July 2024.
As a result, some aspects of the strategy, including references to forthcoming implementation plans, no longer reflect the current context.
The Australian Government delivered a comprehensive, unified response to the House of Representatives Standing Committee’s report on Tuesday 12 May 2026, reaffirming our commitment to improving health outcomes for all Australians.
