2021–22 medical indemnity universal cover annual report

This report sets out the number of refusals by insurers to provide insurance cover to medical practitioners and the number of contracts with a risk surcharge in 2021–22. It also sets out the total number of withdrawals from contracts, and complaints about refusals and surcharges.

In the 2021–22 financial year, medical indemnity insurers reported a total number of:

  • 12 refusals to provide professional indemnity insurance cover to a medical practitioner
  • 171 insurance contracts imposing a risk surcharge.
