2021–22 medical indemnity universal cover annual report

In the 2021–22 financial year, medical indemnity insurers reported a total number of:

• 12 refusals to provide professional indemnity insurance cover to a medical practitioner
• 171 insurance contracts imposing a risk surcharge.

They also reported a total of 156 instances of the following:

• complaints to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (ACFA) about refusals and risk surcharges
• withdrawals from entering a contract of insurance by a medical practitioner.
