Future engagement
As Thriving Kids rolls out, governments are continuing engagement. Governments will keep talking with families, carers and kin (families), communities, organisations, professionals and experts. This will help make sure supports meet the needs of children and families.
This includes:
- engaging with families
- working with organisations and professionals with expertise in child development, health, education, disability and early childhood
- engaging with First Nations communities and culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- working with workforce and professional organisations to support delivery
- providing updates so communities know how Thriving Kids is progressing.
The Australian Government will also keep working with:
- state and territory governments to make sure supports work together across Australia
- the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to help families move smoothly between supports where needed
State and territory governments will also talk to their communities about the supports they will deliver.
Previous engagement
We’ve been engaging closely with families, experts, representative groups and communities on how Thriving Kids could be rolled out. This builds off previous engagement we did on the design of Thriving Kids and the national model.

Thriving Kids Advisory Group
In 2025, the Thriving Kids Advisory Group gave advice on how Thriving Kids can support children and families across Australia.

Inquiry into Thriving Kids
In 2025, the House Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability held an inquiry into Thriving Kids. The inquiry gathered feedback from organisations, experts, families, representative groups and carers. It used submissions, surveys and public hearings. The inquiry made recommendations based on evidence and feedback it received.
The inquiry’s findings have helped shape Thriving Kids.
The Australian Government’s response to the inquiry was tabled in the House of Representatives on 13 August 2026.

Foundational Supports consultation
In 2024, governments consulted communities about the design and delivery of Foundational Supports. This included supports for children aged 8 and under.
National consultations took place between September and December 2024.

NDIS Review
The Independent Review of the NDIS was completed in 2023. One of the findings of the review was that children with developmental delay would benefit from more supports outside the NDIS as part of a connected support system.
