About the review
The MRAC is conducting a review of MBS time-tiered items for primary care.
The review will consider issues such as item consistency, opportunities to streamline, and whether the current time-tiers appropriately support contemporary clinical practice.
A working group has been established to lead this review and will report back to the full committee on its findings. Recommendations or advice from this review will be finalised and provided to Government at the end of 2025.

Why the review is important
The time-tiered general practice items are the foundation of primary care in the MBS. Together, these items make up approximately a third of all MBS services delivered. The review will consider issues such as consistency across MBS items and whether the number of items could be streamlined. It will also consider whether the current time-tiers appropriately support contemporary clinical practice.

Status
The Time-Tiered working group has met on 3 occasions, most recently on 24 and 25 February.
