About the day

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations observed day held on 3 December each year. It’s a day to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

In Australia, governments, schools, communities, organisations, and people work together to do this.

Get involved

The Australian Government funds activities to help the community to learn more about people with disability.

Here are some things we do:

  • Make videos and write stories to help people understand the lived experience of people with disability.
  • Create resources for workplaces, schools and community groups.
  • Support awards, events or activities that show the achievements and stories of people with disability.
  • Share real stories from people with disability through ambassadors.
  • Encourage understanding and inclusion on the IDPwD website, Facebook and Instagram
