Endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics

Endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics have been established across Australia. These clinics work to reduce diagnosis timeframes and provide better care and pain management for those suffering from endometriosis, pelvic pain and other chronic pelvic pain conditions.

Expansion of the endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics

On 14 November 2025, the Australian Government announced the locations of 11 additional Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinics (clinics) as part of the clinic program expansion. The expansion will bring the total number of clinics to 33 nationwide, with at least one in each Primary Health Network region. The new clinics are expected to receive funding by the end of the year and will provide tailored endometriosis and pelvic pain services by the start of 2026.

The existing 22 clinics will also receive an extension of funding to continue providing targeted care and support, as well as start providing menopause-related care and supports from July 2026 based on their local community needs.

More information on the expansion of the clinics can be found in the media release from Minister Butler.

About the initiative

The Australian Government is funding endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics in every state and territory in Australia. With all 31 Primary Health Networks having at least one clinic in their region. These clinics aim to:

  • improve access for patients to diagnostic, treatment and referral services for endometriosis and pelvic pain
  • improve access for patients to care, treatment and management for perimenopause and menopause
  • increase access to allied health and support services, as they relate to endometriosis, pelvic pain, perimenopause and menopause
  • increase access to healthcare for endometriosis, pelvic pain, perimenopause and menopause patients from priority populations, particularly those in underserved communities
  • provide access to new information, care pathways and networks for women with endometriosis, pelvic pain, perimenopause or menopause symptoms
  • provide an appropriately trained workforce with expertise in endometriosis, pelvic pain, perimenopause and menopause
  • provide practice staff with advanced training qualifications and further study
  • provide additional practice staff (e.g allied health, nurse navigators)
  • provide enhanced referral pathways with local providers, equipment purchase, education resources and activities for patients, their families and carers.

Why it is important

Endometriosis is a complex and debilitating chronic condition that can be hard to diagnose, with those suffering waiting an average of 6-8 years before diagnosis. It is a condition that can start at puberty and continue through to old age. In Australia it affects at least one in seven girls, women and those assigned female at birth.

Goals

The clinics provide multi-disciplinary care with a focus on:

  • enabling appropriate endometriosis care and management, leading to improved diagnosis timeframes and appropriate pain management for impacted patients
  • providing care, support, treatment and management of symptoms associated with menopause, including throughout the menopause transition (perimenopause) and post-menopause.

Meeting our goals

We are funding the clinics through the Primary Health Networks (PHN). Clinics have a range of mechanisms available to ensure:

  • provision of services to priority populations
  • affordable patient support services
  • provision of pathways to local providers
  • greater accessibility for patients across the community.

Recognising that endometriosis is a complex condition that effects people in many ways, these services and treatments will be multidisciplinary.

Outcomes

An evaluation of the clinics is underway and will help integrate available support into the treatment and management of people with coexisting conditions such as endometriosis.
