Carer-Inclusive Workplace Initiative

This initiative helps workplaces support employees who care for family and friends. It gives workplaces tools and tips to become more carer-inclusive and keep top talent.

About the program

Carer-Inclusive Workplace Initiative helps workplaces support employees who provide unpaid care to family members or friends.

This initiative is run by Carers Australia, the national peak body representing Australia’s carers, and funded by the Australian Government.

Being a carer-inclusive workplace can:

  • help keep good staff
  • lower sick days
  • boost morale.

It also shows you care about your people.

Why it matters

Around 3 million Australians provide unpaid care for family or friends. This initiative helps make workplaces fairer and more supportive for them. It started after the our Jobs and Skills Summit where leaders talked about making work better for everyone.

Who can join

Any business or organisation in Australia of any size can join. To start, just fill out the free self-assessment tool with 11 questions.

What you get

Workplaces get helpful tools such as online learning modules and resources, created in collaboration with HR experts and carers.

After completing the self-assessment, if you return a high score and your workplace is regarded as carer-inclusive, you’ll get:

  • a toolkit of media assets to show your support to staff and customers and to inspire other organisations
  • opportunity to have your organisation’s logo displayed on the Carer-Inclusive Workplace website
  • information about how to obtain formal accreditation.
