About the program
The ACTTP program supports new aged care nurses with training and professional development.
Nurses who take part in the program will receive:
- specialist training in aged care and gerontological nursing
- mentorship from senior aged care nurses.
Why it is important
Nurses are clinical and organisational leaders in residential aged care facilities and aged care can provide exciting opportunities for rapid development and career advancement.
This support and specialist training will also ensure nurses have the confidence and skills to deliver high quality clinical care to older Australians.
Goals
The ACTTP program aims to attract and retain new aged care nurses by offering vital support to nurses beginning in the sector. This will boost the attractiveness of aged care nursing and highlight the exciting and unique opportunities that exist for aged care nurses.
Who is eligible
There are three streams of the ACTTP program available to nurses in their first or second year of clinical practice in aged care.
This includes:
- newly graduated registered nurses (including nurse practitioners)
- newly graduated enrolled nurses
- experienced nurses who have recently transitioned to the aged care sector from another sector.
Nurses and aged care providers who are interested in participating in the program should contact ACTTP suppliers for program stream information.
The program is open until 30 June 2027.
