Disability Royal Commission Progress Report 2025

Recommendation 6.38 – Strengthening the evidence base on reducing and eliminating restrictive practices

Read progress on recommendation 6.38 of the Disability Royal Commission.

Responsibility: Australian Government

Response: Accept in principle

Status: Further work required

The National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP) is independent of government and operates on a defined budget. Research priority setting in relation to the longitudinal study is a decision for the NDRP Board. The NDRP is developing its capability for future commissioned research through a pilot project.

The NDRP has commenced its biannual research rounds initially themed on ‘safety of people with disability’. The NDRP is currently funded through a Commonwealth grant, ending in June 2027.

Further work will consider potential opportunities to leverage existing studies and longitudinal data assets.
