Under the new Aged Care Act, all aged care providers delivering government-funded aged care services, are now registered.

Registered providers deliver aged care services in one or more of the following registration categories, based on risk profile and service type:

  • Home and community services
  • Assistive technology and home modifications
  • Advisory and support services
  • Personal and care support in the home or community
  • Nursing and transition care
  • Residential care.

Providers who deliver services in registration categories 4, 5 and/or 6 must also meet strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards aligned to the types of services they deliver.

The strengthened Quality Standards define what quality care look like. Providers must listen to older people and respect their dignity, privacy and rights. Care and services must meet each older person’s needs, goals, preferences.
