Traumatic brain injury research to examine long-term impact of concussion in children

The Australian Government is investing over $5.7 million to further develop traumatic brain injury research, aimed at improving the lives of Australians who sustain brain injuries.

Three projects on traumatic brain injury are receiving a total of $5.7 million from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) over the next 2 years.  

  • Murdoch Children’s Research Institute — Can predictive markers assist in early detection of children at risk for persisting symptoms and their response to prevention and intervention?
  • The University of Adelaide — Forecasting Impairment and Neurodegenerative Disease risk following Traumatic Brain Injury (FIND-TBI): A computational neurology-driven method to predict long-term prognosis
  • The University of Queensland — PREDICT-TBI - PREdiction and Diagnosis using Imaging and Clinical biomarkers Trial in Traumatic Brain Injury: the value of Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The funding comes from the Traumatic Brain Injury Mission, which is providing $50 million over 10 years for research aimed at improving the lives of people living with brain injuries.
