Regional, Rural and Remote Home Care Workforce Support Program

We are growing the home care workforce with targeted support for providers to recruit and retain home care workers in regional, rural and remote locations.

Date published:

We recently launched the Regional, Rural and Remote Home Care Workforce Support Program to support home care providers in areas where workforce shortages are the most acute.

The program aims to attract, recruit and retain an additional 4,000 home care workers in regional, rural and remote locations by:

  • increasing provider capacity to grow their own local workforce
  • providing pre-screening, pre-employment and skills assessment of potential new personal care workers
  • improving the cultural safety environments of home care providers to improve the retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers in the home care sector.

The following organisations have been appointed to deliver the program in selected regions across Australia until June 2027:

  • Ageing Australia (Tasmania and Victoria)
  • Skills Generation (New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia)
  • Crest NT Ltd (Northern Territory)
