The department report outlines the review process, findings and outcome.
The department considered advice from the Medical Devices and Human Tissue Advisory Committee and agreed that Prescribed List (PL) benefits for surgical guides and biomodels will be maintained.
Through the review, the department introduced and refined a condition on reimbursement for surgical guides and biomodels. Monitoring has demonstrated a clear change in utilisation following implementation of the condition, including reductions in claims and expenditure. These outcomes have been further supported by public sector benefit benchmarking introduced through the PL reforms.
The department will continue to work with stakeholders on the implications of the condition and monitor data on claims for surgical guides and biomodels to ensure the condition continues to meet the policy intent.
