National Immunisation Program (NIP) Meningococcal ACWY changes from 1 July 2024

The NIP provides free meningococcal ACWY vaccines to people most at risk of complications from meningococcal disease. 

From 1 July 2024, MenQuadfi® is free under the NIP for adolescents aged 14 to 16 years and young people aged 15 to 19 years on catch-up programs. Nimenrix® will continue to be available for free through the NIP for all other eligible groups.

Eligible groups

Free meningococcal ACWY vaccines on the NIP are available for:

  • children aged 12 months
  • adolescents aged 14 to 16 years 
  • young people aged 15 to 19 years on catch-up schedules
  • people with specified medical conditions that increase their risk of serious complications from meningococcal disease.

Delivery

Adolescents aged 14 to 16 years will continue to receive meningococcal ACWY vaccines primarily through school vaccination programs as well as health services. Meningococcal ACWY vaccines for children aged 12 months, young people aged 15 to 19 years on catch-up schedules and those people with specified medical conditions will be available through health professionals and a range of health services including pharmacies.

Reporting

It is mandatory to report all vaccines that you administer to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
