COVID-19 social and emotional wellbeing resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

Over the past couple of years, a lot of us have faced major challenges that have had a significant impact on our mental health and wellbeing.

This includes separation from family, friends and local community, experiences of financial uncertainty or job losses, or not being able to conduct ceremonies in the ways they have always been practised.

To highlight the importance of mental health and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ social and emotional wellbeing, the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care has developed a suite of resources.

The Keep Your Spirit Strong communications project aims to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to prioritise their social and emotional wellbeing.

This project recognises and acknowledges that for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, personal identity is often connected to culture, country, community, kin and family. These physical and spiritual connections can build and strengthen resilience, and social and emotional wellbeing.

Resources including video animations, social content and images, and case studies are available here.

Head to Health also has information and resources on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
