FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ ready to take the pitch

Australia prepares for history as it welcomes teams from across the globe to the largest female sporting event in the world.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ is just around the corner and we’re gearing up for an action-packed month of football, fans and fun. Australian host cities are set to come to life throughout the tournament, which will run from 20 July – 20 August 2023.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ is the largest women’s sporting event in the world. FIFA is hoping for 1.5 million people to attend the matches across the two countries. The Australian Government is proud to be co-hosting the event with New Zealand in what will be a tournament of firsts:

  • the first time hosted in the Southern Hemisphere
  • the first co-hosted
  • the first Women’s World Cup to feature 32 nations.

Tournaments like this provide an important spotlight for women’s sport and harness the rising popularity of women’s football to:

  • inspire young girls and women from all walks of life
  • drive participation in football
  • promote gender equity
  • showcase Australia to the world
  • achieve cultural and economic benefits.

Where are the matches?

Australia and New Zealand will be co-hosting The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ with matches played across 9 host cities.

In Australia, matches will be held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, allowing visitors the opportunity to explore some iconic Australian locations.

What is the FIFA Fan festival?

For the first time at a Women’s World Cup, the FIFA Fan Festival will be taking place in all host cities. All FIFA Fan Festivals will:

  • be free for all ages
  • offer a vibrant destination to celebrate the global game
  • allow visitors to experience the tournament away from the pitch.
