Providing access to safe and effective vaccines to the Australian community is a key priority of the Australian Government.
Our health practitioners play a vital role in this effort and have provided magnificent care to Australians throughout the pandemic.
The Australian Government, with the support of Australia’s Health Ministers, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and the relevant National Boards, will extend the pandemic sub-register to provide continued support for the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines.
The sub-register will be extended for doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners who have the expertise and experience to administer vaccinations.
The extension will be for a period of 12 months from the 6 April 2021 as it was due to expire this week.
In April 2020, Australia’s Health Ministers requested the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and the National Boards established the pandemic response sub-register to supplement the Australian health workforce with experienced, qualified health practitioners.
Health practitioners have provided valuable support to the community during the pandemic and the Australian Government thanks them for their continued service.

The extension of the sub-register will provide practices, vaccination clinics and state/territory health departments with certainty and access to experienced health practitioners to supplement their vaccination workforce.
