Accommodation census for residential aged care providers

We want to hear from all residential aged care providers about age care accommodation to gain accurate data about the number of beds in Australia.

Date published:

Help us make sure all aged care beds are counted to prepare for future demand.

We are building a national database on bed capacity, home locations and conditions to:

  • inform policy and funding decisions by government
  • address care shortages
  • reduce hospital stays
  • support Australia’s ageing population.

The census will take up to 30 minutes for each residential care home to complete and runs from 27 July to 6 September.

A link to the census will be emailed to you. Each aged care provider must use their individual link to complete the census.

If an aged care provider doesn’t receive an email from us by 2 August, they can email us at residentialplacesmanagement@health.gov.au

View an example of the census to see what questions you will be asked and which questions will have prepopulated data to check.

Key findings using aggregated data will be published later this year.
