$6 million for climate change and mental health research

The Australian Government is investing $6 million in research that will improve mental health support for Australians affected by climate change. Funding is from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).

The MRFF’s Global Health initiative funds research that improves our understanding of global health threats. This includes research on the health impacts of climate change. 

Three projects will share funding under the initiative’s 2025 Mental Health and Climate Change grant opportunity to: 

  • research and develop practical, community-led approaches that improve the mental health and wellbeing of people affected by climate change 
  • focus on the experiences of First Nations communities.
