The Albanese Government has honoured an important election commitment to the people of Logan – delivering a brand new Medicare Urgent Care Clinic at the Browns Plains Medical & Dental Centre.

The clinic which began operating today, is open extended hours, seven days a week, easing pressure on Logan Hospital.

Highly trained doctors and nurses will provide care, with no need for an appointment.

More than 22 per cent of current emergency department cases presenting at Logan Hospital are classified as semi or non-urgent.

The Medicare UCCs will ease this pressure, leaving hospitals to concentrate on higher-priority emergencies.

The Logan Medicare UCC delivers on the Albanese Government’s commitment to make it easier for the community to get the urgent treatment they need while taking pressure off hospitals.

A total of 11 Medicare UCCs will open across Queensland by the end of the year including in Bundaberg, Ipswich, Rockhampton, Cairns, Southern Brisbane, Northern Brisbane, Gold Coast, Redcliffe, Townsville and Toowoomba.

Quotes attributable to Minister Butler:

“The Logan Medicare UCC will make a big difference to patients, and enable families to walk in and receive convenient, high-quality care from a nurse or a doctor.

“The Government has worked closely with the Queensland Government and Queensland Primary Health Network to ensure that the UCC aligns with local health services and the needs of the community.

“The Logan Medicare UCC is just another way the Government is strengthening Medicare and making it easier to see a doctor.”

Quotes attributable to Jim Chalmers, Treasurer and Member for Rankin:

“This is a great win for families in our community – making it cheaper and easier to see a doctor and easing pressure on the local hospital.

“More bulk billing is one of the best ways we can help to ease the cost of living in our community without adding to inflation and that’s what this is all about.

“The new Logan Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will ensure local families can get bulk billed care when and where they need it, without an appointment.

“From broken bones to burns, coughs, colds or cuts - you can head straight to the clinic rather than to the emergency department.

“This centre will deliver quicker care, closer to home for lots of people at the same time as we free up the hardworking doctors and nurses at Logan Hospital to focus on saving lives.”
