The Australian Government has appointed Dr Zoran Bolevich to lead the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW).

The AIHW, an independent statutory authority, is Australia’s most trusted source of health and welfare data. It tracks and analyses trends in health care, providing evidence to support effective planning and delivery of government policies.

Dr Bolevich brings a wealth of experience in effective use of digital technologies, data analytics, research and innovation to improve the health system.

He was previously the Chief Executive of eHealth NSW and the Chief Information Officer for NSW Health. He has been a member of the AIHW board since 2016.

Quotes attributable to Minister Butler:

“I would like to thank Matthew James for his time and hard work as acting chief executive officer for the past few months, and welcome aboard Dr Bolevich.

“Dr Bolevich has spent years of his life working to improve health and medical data standards in Australia. I can’t think of a better person to lead the AIHW.

“I look forward to working with him to use the most cutting-edge information and data to improve our health policies.”

Quotes attributable to AIHW Chair, Nicola Roxon

“Dr Bolevich will bring energy, expertise and experience to the role. Given how much of AIHW’s work is dependant on strong, co-operative relationships and trust with the States and Territories, his work at the jurisdictional level will bring important and fresh perspective to the Commonwealth.
