Young people in Gawler, north of Adelaide, can now access free mental health support and care with a new headspace centre now open.
headspace Gawler was officially opened today by Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Emma McBride MP, and Member for Spence, Matt Burnell MP.
Located at 3 Whitelaw Terrace, Gawler, the headspace will support the growing number of young people seeking mental health support in the region.
headspace provides a safe and welcoming space for young people to access support and care across four key areas – mental health, physical and sexual health, work and study, and alcohol and other drug services.
The Australian Government is investing more than $300 million in headspace this financial year.
There are currently 175 headspace services nationally, with a commitment to expand to 203 locations.
As part of the government’s $1.1 billion election commitment to improving mental health, 58 headspace services will be established, upgraded or enhanced.
headspace Gawler is funded by the Australian Government, commissioned by the Country South Australia Primary Health Network, and operated by Youturn.
For young people who prefer online support, eheadspace is available at: www.headspace.org.au or by phoning 1800 650 890.
