More young people in Launceston will now have access to free mental health services at the expanded headspace centre relocated to 24 Wellington Street opening today.
headspace has been providing free mental health care, physical and sexual health services, alcohol and drug support and vocational services to young people in Launceston since 2009.
The relocation and fit-out was made possible through the Albanese Government’s headspace Demand Management and Enhancement program of $3.53 million across the 4 Tasmanian services.
In 2023-24 headspace Launceston has already provided 5,244 occasions of service to 726 young people, including 373 new young people.
There are currently 160 headspace centres operating nationally, including 4 in Tasmania with commitments in place to grow the network to 173 by 2025-26 to respond to the increasingly distress experienced by young Australians.
The Government is continuing to boost vital mental health services for Tasmania’s young people, with a statewide early psychosis service opening in late 2024, and a new headspace on Hobart’s eastern shore opening next year.
In 2023–24, more than $290 million will be invested in the headspace program for the benefit of young people and their families across the nation.
For young people who prefer online or phone support, eheadspace can be accessed by phoning 1800 650 890 or visiting www.headspace.org.au.
