Quality Assurance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Medical Services (QAAMS) pathology program
The QAAMS program provides rapid, on-site diabetes testing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Since its pilot at 45 sites in 1999, it has grown to about 180 sites across Australia.
QAAMS helps to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with diabetes.
Many of the QAAMS sites are in rural and remote locations with poor or no access to rapid pathology testing for diabetes. These tests used in QAAMS provide a result in 6 minutes. This means patients can receive their results during the same appointment.
