What was the Maternal Health and First 2000 Days/Women’s Health initiative?

We set up the Maternal Health and First 2000 Days/Women’s Health initiative to support:

  • the mother’s health during pregnancy
  • the child’s health during their first 2000 days (5 years) of life

This research activity continues as part of the Preventive and Public Health Research initiative.

Why was the Maternal Health and First 2000 Days/Women’s Health initiative important?

The first 2000 days of a child’s life is a unique opportunity to shape a healthier future for them. We will support research into health interventions that can give Australian children the best start in life.

Status

We will now address this initiative’s priorities through Preventive and Public Health Research.
