Residential Aged Care Accommodation Pricing Review

An independent review will consider accommodation pricing in residential aged care, including the rate and design of the accommodation supplement.

Role

On 12 September 2024, the Australian Government released its response to the recommendations of the Aged Care Taskforce (Taskforce). As part of that response, the government committed to an independent review of accommodation pricing in residential aged care, including:

  • consideration of the current rates of the accommodation supplement
  • incentives for providers to develop and maintain good quality accommodation
  • incentives to accept low means participants
  • pricing arrangements for residents that pay some or all of their accommodation costs, including the suitability of current arrangements to convert between lump sum and daily payments.

The final report will be tabled in Parliament no later than 1 July 2026.

Members

Mr Nigel Ray PSM and Associate Professor Nicole Sutton have been appointed as independent reviewers.
