Role
The expert advisory committee is one of 2 main governance groups that provide advice on the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.
The committee is a multidisciplinary group that provides expert advice to promote best-practice lung cancer screening. The committee’s role is to provide advice and support to:
- develop and finalise various program products and operations, including the NLCSP program guidelines
- research related to prevention and screening of lung cancer, including optimal patient care and equitable access within the health system
- distribute education and resources that support clinical implementation.
Members
We appoint committee members either as representatives of their organisation or as individuals. Members consult and collaborate with their organisation or other experts in their field. Members will also help to distribute education and information resources to their sector.

Meetings
The committee meets approximately every 3 months. It considers items in between these meetings out of session as required.
Related groups
The NLCSP Data Development Working Group is a sub-committee of the NLCSP Expert Advisory Committee. The working group provides expert advice to the program implementation partners. It plays an active role in developing the program’s:
- performance indicators
- quality and safety measures
- associated data points and attributes
- monitoring data dictionary.
This work is central to enabling program monitoring and measuring the success of the program.
The NLCSP Clinical Expert Panel is a sub-committee of the NLCSP Expert Advisory Committee. The panel supports implementing the program by providing expert advice on:
- the protocol of actions for lung cancer screening to be implemented by the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR)
- letters developed for the NCSR.
The NLCSP Advisory Group also advises us about the program. The advisory group gives program and policy advice and focuses on how each jurisdiction will deliver the program.
