NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee assessment process

The NDIS EAC assessment process involves public consultation, expert evidence reviews and technical subcommittee input. The process has 4 phases: consultation, assessment, technical review, and recommendations.

Consultation

Public consultation will be part of the assessment process for all supports reviewed by the EAC. The EAC will commission expert researchers to assess supports included in the annual workplan. These experts will review and summarise the available evidence, looking at:

  • safety
  • cost-effectiveness
  • quality of evidence
  • any gaps.

The EAC and its technical subcommittees will then review these assessments and consider all factors before forming their advice.

The assessment process

The assessment process has 4 phases.

Consultation

Public feedback informs the scope of the assessment and provides context to inform EAC decisions.

Assessment

Expert research groups locate, analyse and synthesise evidence, conduct economic evaluations and write draft assessment reports.

Technical review

Subcommittees review draft assessment reports and advise the EAC about benefits, safety and cost-effectiveness.

Recommendation

The EAC weighs up the evidence domains and contextual input and forms overall recommendations.
