Role
Formed as a committee in 2015, the National Nursing and Midwifery Education Advisory Network’s (NNMEAN) role is to give high-level strategic advice to health ministers.
It uses an evidence-based approach to plan and manage education, employment and immigration for nurses and midwives in Australia. This includes:
- enrolled nurses (ENs)
- midwives.
- nurse practitioners (NPs)
- registered nurses (RNs)
The NNMEAN works with the Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Reference Group (NMSRG) to provide advice on:
- education of nurses and midwives to meet the health needs of the Australian community
- factors effecting nurses and midwives entering the workforce
- how entry and development pathways can shape future careers
- national supply and demand workforce reports
- health workforce reports to inform policy advice and strategy
- specific requests by health ministers.

Members
Membership includes professionals with knowledge, experience and influence in the areas of workforce, education, policy and employment.
The following organisations nominate members to act in the NNMEAN:

- Australia and New Zealand Council of Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers (ANZCCNMO)

- Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE)
- Council of Deans of Nursing and Midwifery (CDNM)
- Australia and New Zealand Council of Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers (ANZCCNMO)
- Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC)
- Council of Deans of Nursing and Midwifery (CDNM)
- Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives (CATSINaM).
The NNMEAN can co-opt members if needed to give expert advice. This includes forming time-based working groups chaired by a member.
Meetings
The NNMEAN meets 3 times a year but may hold more meetings as required. It will post any public communiques here.
