Role
The Reference Group is advising government on work under the Strategy and the Action Plan and will guide evaluation of the progress and impact of the Strategy.
It will also focus on how the government can work alongside the broader community to improve understanding and acceptance around autism to help break down enduring barriers to inclusion for Autistic people living in Australia

Guided by the Strategy’s commitment to co-design, the Reference Group includes 6 representatives from the Autistic community, 2 Autistic individuals from the research and professional sector, and 6 officials from relevant Commonwealth agencies, including a Co-Chair from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing

Appointments to the Reference Group were made in consultation with peak bodies from across the disability and autism communities following a national Expression of Interest process. Collectively, the community members of the Reference Group represent the diversity of the Autistic community, including the priority cohorts identified in the Strategy.
