Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Chairs Committee

The HTA Chairs Committee provides advice on HTA investments under the Preventive and Public Health Research initiative of the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).

Role

The committee advises the Health and Medical Research Office on the strategic priorities for research investment under the HTA stream, which is part of the Preventive and Public Health Research initiative. The initiative is funded by MRFF.

The role of the committee is to:

  • identify, discuss, prioritise, and refine grant opportunities under the HTA stream
  • support the monitoring of MRFF grants that are relevant to HTAs
  • undertake other work as needed.

Members

The Australian Government appoints various HTA committees. The chairs of these committees make up the membership of the HTA Chairs Committee.

The chair of the HTA Chairs Committee is Adriana Platona. She is the First Assistant Secretary of our Technology Assessment and Access Division.

Emeritus Professor Campbell is with the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of New South Wales. He is the Director of Research at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney.

Professor McColl is the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland. He is currently the President of the Australian Medical Council.

Professor Anne Duggan

Chair, Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Reviews Advisory Committee (MRAC).

Professor Duggan is the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care. She also holds joint Professor roles at the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle and St Vincent’s Private Hospitals.
