Role
The role of the DHSCC is to:
- Share information and ask for feedback on health supports and access to health services for people with disability. This includes matters related to the direct and indirect impacts of communicable diseases (e.g. COVID-19) on people with disability.
- Discuss current and new issues for people with disability when accessing disability support and health services, identify priorities and suggest approaches to address concerns raised.
- Discuss and provide updates on other relevant topics members are interested in.
The DHSCC does not replace other consultation mechanisms focused on specific policy, program and delivery initiatives.
Members
The committee includes experts from various backgrounds including:
- people with disability
- carers of a person with disability
- representatives from national health and disability organisations
- disability service providers
- health and disability professionals and academics, and
- Commonwealth, state and territory disability and health government officials.

Meetings
The DHSCC meets three to 4 times per year. Additional meetings may be held if needed.
Related committees or groups
Both time limited and ongoing subcommittees may be established to assist with the duties of the DHSCC as agreed by members or at the discretion of the Chair.
Long Term Health Advocacy Working Group
The Long-Term Health Advocacy Working Group (the Working Group), established by the Disability and Health Sector Consultation Committee (DHSCC), was tasked with identifying the key issues relating to health advocacy for people with disability.
