Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC)

The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee is the key decision-making committee for health emergencies. Australia's Chief Medical Officer chairs this committee, which includes all state and territory Chief Health Officers.

Role

The AHPPC has an ongoing role to advise the Health Chief Executives Forum (HCEF) on health protection matters and national priorities.

The committee is also tasked with the role of mitigating emerging health threats related to infectious diseases, and the environment as well as natural and human made disasters.

The committee works with states and territories to develop and adopt national health protection policies, guidelines, standards and alignment of plans.

Members

The AHPPC includes all state and territory Chief Health Officers and is chaired by the Australian Chief Medical Officer.

Meetings

The AHPPC meets regularly, and additionally as required, in response to emerging health protection priorities. Face to face meetings are held 3 or 4 times a year, with the remaining meetings held remotely.
