Role
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Collaboration was formally established by the Australian Government in 2023 to advise the Health Chief Executive Forum and Health Ministers Meeting on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
It provides a coordinated national approach to First Nations’ health and wellbeing, providing a forum for Commonwealth, state and territory governments, and First Nations health sector representatives to drive health priorities, in line with the outcomes of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Roundtable.
The Health Roundtable provides a platform for key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders to discuss current and future policies, strategies, and reforms. It also ensures the First Nations health sector are heard and able to voice their priorities directly to Health Ministers to guide decision making.
Members
Membership comprises:
- Commonwealth, state and territory government health officials
- First Nations health sector representatives from each jurisdiction.
The group is currently co-chaired by the Commonwealth, First Assistant Secretary for the First Nations Health Division and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation. Chairing arrangements are reviewed every 2 years.
Meetings
The Health Collaboration meets quarterly by videoconference, or as otherwise agreed by members. Additional meetings to discuss Workplan priorities may be convened as needed or may also be progressed out-of-session
