About the program
The program supports Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to get work experience in the Australian Public Service (APS) while completing their degree.
This helps them to:
- develop practical workforce skills to improve future employment prospects
- have a career pathway with us and the APS.
We work with the career support services at the University of Canberra to recruit for this program.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, you must:
- identify as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
- be in first or second year of study in an undergraduate degree.
How it works
Interns commence at an APS2 classification on a non-ongoing employment contract.
You must complete 10 weeks or a total of 375 work hours within a 12-month period, with the option to extend to up to 3 years.
You can tailor your work schedule to suit your study schedule. For example, you can work:
- 37.5 hours per week (standard weekly full-time hours)
- part time hours
- one day a fortnight.
You and your workplace supervisor must agree to the schedule.
