This animation provides information about the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, including who is eligible, what dental services are covered and how to access benefits.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule covers part or all the cost of basic dental services for eligible children.

It is part of Medicare—Australia’s health care system that provides a range of services at low or no cost.

Services covered by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule include check-ups, X-rays, cleaning, fillings, root canals, extractions, and partial dentures. It doesn’t cover orthodontic or cosmetic treatments, or dental services in a hospital.

You don’t need to apply for this benefit – if your child is eligible, Services Australia will send you a letter – by post or as a myGov message.

Remember to keep your address details up to date. You can do this online on myGov or by calling Services Australia on 132 011.

Eligible families can access an amount to spend on dental care over two years.

Before booking, check if your child qualifies for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Also check with your dental clinic if they participate and ask them to explain any out-of-pocket costs.

More young Australians now have access to subsidised dental health services through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
