Shield yourself from shingles – How to prevent shingles

If you’ve had chickenpox as a kid, you can get shingles as an adult. Adrian, from Bundjalung, Minjungbal, and Coodjinburra Country, shares his experience with shingles. The shingles vaccine is free for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 50 years or older.

Adrian (from Bundjalung, Minjungbal, and Coodingburra Country):

I wouldn’t hesitate to have the vaccine.

My Uncle had it (the shingles virus) and he was quite concerned for me, because he had it about a year before I did.

He suffered quite seriously with the pain, and not being able to move, and not even being able to roll over in his sleep, because the pain was so intense.

I could hear the tone of voice he was quite worried for me, for what I was about to experience.
