For Tania, who just turned 56, the onset of perimenopause came with some specific symptoms, but mostly, an overwhelming feeling that she wasn’t herself.
“I am not a depressive sort of person and have a very positive outlook on life, but I did not feel like myself at all.”
Tania started experiencing night sweats at around age 45 and says other symptoms hit her at around 47 or 48 “like a freight train”. At around 49 her period stopped completely and she felt like she was “having an out of body experience”.
After years of symptoms, Tania spoke to a doctor.
“My Mum passed away 15 or 16 years ago, so I had nothing to go on – no other females in my life who had gone through it.”
Tania worked with her doctor to find the dose of Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) that was right for her. She says it made a significant difference.
“Once I got treatment, I felt human again,” she says.
