Claire, 43, started to experience perimenopause symptoms after having a hysterectomy. The first symptom she noticed was her hair was breaking and falling out. Then she started having trouble sleeping and with her memory, and felt her mental health was suffering.
In response, Claire made some changes to her lifestyle.
“Focusing on nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle adjustments like improved sleep are a big thing for me. They have helped me mentally,” she says.
Claire acknowledges that it’s easy to feel like you’re losing yourself during this stage of life, so it’s important to talk to people.
“My mum has always been very open so I knew I could turn to her, and I could also turn to my sister,” she says.
“Let’s not ignore it and let’s not pretend it doesn’t happen. Hopefully when my daughter experiences perimenopause and menopause it’s a much more forgiving and understanding society.”
