Multi-Purpose Service Program – Place Allocations

Each year the Minister for Aged Care and Seniors determines how many places can be allocated to the Multi-Purpose Services Program (MPSP).

MPSP place allocation process for 2025-26 and 2026-27

In February 2026 the Minister allocated an additional 100 residential places to the MPSP for each of the 2025-26 and 2026-27 financial years.

Bringing a place into effect

MPSP places will be allocated out of effect. This is because the provider may need to take further steps to ensure that the additional physical bed is ready and properly staffed. While an allocated place is out of effect, no additional funding is provided.

A registered provider can bring a place into effect at any time within 5 years of the place being allocated. Places provisionally allocated under the old Act can also be brought into effect at any time prior to 31 October 2030.

Information about requirements related to bringing a place into effect can be found within Section 5 of  the Multi-Purpose Service Program Manual and the Multi-Purpose Service Program (MPSP) Allocation Round – Information on the round and guidance for providers – 2025-26.

MPSP providers will be able to apply to bring additional places into effect from June 2026. Applicants should use this form which is also available from the MPSP web pages.

Where we approve an application to bring places into effect, the MPSP team will liaise with the relevant providers to update funding agreement and payment arrangements.

2026-27 Allocation of MPSP places

For the 2026-27 financial year, 100 MPSP places are available for allocation. Allocations can be made to expand existing MPS sites or establish new MPS sites.

Further information on the application for an allocation of MPSP places for 2026-27 will be made available in June 2026.
