What you need to do
As a fellowed doctor you must:
- log into BRoSS every 12 months to ensure all your details are up to date, including your email and any notifiable events as detailed in section 15 of the Rule
- plan, activate and complete your RoSO plans in BRoSS for any work you wish to credit towards your RoSO. RoSO Plans must be updated within a year of starting, changing or completing a planned activity
- complete and record your 156 weeks of RoSO in BRoSS, with suitable evidence, before the end of your 18 year period as per section 16 of the Rule.
Dual specialties and subspecialities
BRoSS allows you to record dual specialities. To register dual specialties under the Program, you must undertake two separate speciality types. Subspecialities are:
- where you undertake further training in your foundational speciality
- not recognised as dual specialties under the Program.
Location eligibility for subspecialities is based on the foundational speciality field.
How to record dual specialties in BRoSS
If appropriate, you can record a dual fellowship, which is recognised as a separate speciality, not a subspeciality of your initial training in BRoSS.
Record your vocational training specialisation in BRoSS by completing the:
- ‘Commencement of vocational training’
- ‘Attain medical specialisation’ for a particular speciality type.
You can record a second specialty type via the link to ‘Add another vocational training specialisation’.
Location eligibility for dual specialties
If you have a dual speciality, both of your specialities are considered when determining the location eligibility. If a location is eligible for at least one of your specialties, it is an eligible location for you under the Program.
For dual specialties, BRoSS may not allow you to activate a RoSO plan yourself due to conflicting location eligibility data. In these instances, BRoSS will prompt you to submit a Location Override Request. We will then assess the location eligibility on your behalf.
Completion of RoSO
When you complete 156 weeks of RoSO, we will assess your BRoSS record to determine whether you have met your obligations under the Program. We will advise you if we require additional information or confirm if you have met your obligations.
Once we confirm that you have met your obligations under the Program:
- you will no longer be a bonded participant
- you will receive a certificate of completion
- your access to BRoSS will be removed
- you will no longer be able to view your record.
RoSO scaling
A scaling discount may reduce your RoSO by up to 6 months if you meet the requirements set out under section 14 of the Rule.
For scaling to be applied you must have:
- attained fellowship
- completed 104 weeks (2 years) of your RoSO on a full-time basis in locations classified as MM 4-7. (This service does not need to be continuous and can include multiple RoSO events).
After completing the required 104 full time weeks, any further full-time RoSO in MM 4-7 locations will accrue a scaling discount equal to the time served (for example, one week worked = 2 weeks RoSO credited).
Please note, if you have opted into the Program from a legacy scheme, any RoSO credited as prior service cannot be used to contribute to the scaling benefit.
